INTRODUCTION
Jesus sends his disciples to call Nations to commit themselves to him as master and Lord. The invitation to go to the Nations is for all believers. Whether ordained, lay, young or old. Specifically, the instruction to go to the Nations is to make disciples.
JESUS SAYS GO!
‘’Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all the things that I have thought you and lo I am with you always even to the end of the age’’ Matthew 28: 19-20
DISCIPLESHIP: WHAT THE CHURCH NEEDS TODAY
- A healthy and vibrant Church is determined among other things by the quality of its disciples.
- When disciple making suffers, the Church as a witness to the world subsequently becomes indented.
WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?
- Disciple -making is to mobilize resources, build capacity and mobilize prayer as the Church seeks to be relevant to society as well as offer utmost glory to the Lord of the harvest.
- Disciple-making is a call to relationship and fellowship.
WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?
- Disciple-Making is a call to transformation.
- Disciple-making is a call to vocation and ministry.
WHO IS A DISCIPLE?
- Disciples are people of power.
- The primary intention of Jesus in selecting his disciples is for the purpose of fellowship and relationship.
THE STARTING POINT
- The starting point of Christian discipleship must always be responding and developing a relationship with the Lord and with other Christians.
- The strength and quality of a person’s Christian Spirituality is determined by how close that individual has been with
DISCIPLESHIP IS TIME WITH GOD
- As a disciple spends time with the Lord, he or she is expected to be transformed into the image of the Lord who has invited them into a relationship.
DISCIPLESHIP INVOLVES DISCIPLINE
- Disciples of Christ must demonstrate a transformed life by engaging in spiritual disciplines which includes study and meditating on God’s word, contentment, submission to spiritual authority, prayer, service, ministry among other things.
THE PATHWAY FOR DISCIPLESHIP
‘’And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine, and fellowship in the breaking of bread and in prayer’’ Acts 2:42

- It is dangerous when water, soap, handkerchief and Calendar with the image of a pastor are the things that sustain spiritual journeys of a disciple of Christ at the expense of spiritual discipline.
DISCIPLED TO SERVE
- The Church at any time must have disciples to fill various ministries including ushering, choir , evangelism, Sunday School teachers, committee members etc
CONCLUSION
- The instructions to the disciples to go and make disciples comes within the context of power.
- Jesus came and announced to them that all power has been given to him therefore they should go in his name and not be weak, empty and frightened.
- Indeed the Church and her disciples are people of power and therefore must function as such. Jesus wants the disciples to possess and demonstrate power over sicknesess and demons
